Have you heard of Moms Run This Town? It is a national women’s running club with a lot of different chapters all over. I bet there is one in your neck of the woods! Anyways, this winter they hosted a virtual race called “Frozen Booty”. My chapter decided to make this an actual event so we could all run together!
The race “headquarters” was at VA Runner. We started and ended our race in the parking lot, and then had our “after-party” in the store. They were very gracious hosts and are very supportive of the local running community.
The race started around 9:15 and we left VA Runner and headed (on the sidewalk) up the road. Barely 10 minutes in, I nosedived to the ground and landed on all fours. I hit my knees pretty hard and had to stand still for a little while. I was lucky, though, that my new friend Toni decided to wait with me, and we ended up running the race together 🙂
The rest of the race was uneventful (ie, I didn’t fall again and wasn’t in too much pain) and we finished about 37 minutes later. I think that’s pretty good for having banged up knees. Toni and I ran through the finish line together, and then I had the chance to see the damage to my knees.
I got cleaned up a bit, and then joined the party! We had shopping at VA Runner, a representative from TomTom, mingling, snacks, goodie bags, and a raffle!
I ended up winning a scuba class from Divewell Scuba Coaching! This will be such a fun thing to do this summer. I can’t wait!
We had some great sponsors for our race! Many ladies donated goods from Jamberry, Perfectly Posh, Mary Kay, and other businesses. We also had donations from RoadID, MilestonePod, Limm Armbands, VA Runner, Dicks Sporting Goods, and Bikram Yoga. Everyone loved the prizes! Thank you sponsors!
This was a great event and it was fun spending a morning running and chatting with all these ladies!
