Before the race. I was super excited!
July 12, 2012 – This was my second ever 5k race. I had signed up for this just a few days prior to my first 5k race. This race took place in East Hartford, CT on the airfield. This was an evening race, starting at 6pm, and I had just come from a day of classes at the University of Hartford.

I started out excited and ready to go. Unfortunately, once the race started, that all changed. I started to get overheated and tired all during the first mile. I really thought that I wasn’t going to finish. The mixture of the heat radiating up from the tarmac, the hot sun, and it being later in the day was really getting to me.

I ended up having to walk a good majority of the 5k because I had absolutely no energy.

Suprisingly, I was not last…

Me and Holly
After the race we went and explored Cabella’s. I had not been there before and was amazed that they had a huge fish tank, as well as animals displays.

Lesson learned from this race: hydrate, be prepared for heat, don’t run too fast, and it is ok to walk if needed!
