Vienna 5k & 10k

The Bishop’s Events Vienna 5k & 10k was held on November 25, 2017 in Vienna, VA. This was in partnership with Operation Turbo, a charity that ships “Boxes of Home” to deployed U.S. military stationed around the world, with a focus on those who might not otherwise wouldn’t receive personal mail.

Pre-Race

The start line was adjacent to the Vienna Community Center, so there was plenty of parking and indoor bathrooms. Packet pick-up was simple and quick, so I had plenty of time to go the the restroom and stay warm in my car before the race began.

The Course

The course was an out-and-back along the Washington & Old Dominion Trail. The 10k course was the out-and-back two times. The trail was tree lined and was adjacent to a some backyards. It was very scenic, smooth, and flat! There were many deer out during the race, which made me excited to see. A house cat even made an appearance!

How did I do?

Well, this is quite the story! I was signed up to run the 5k and decided to to test out the new Weav Music app during this race. This app changes the music’s beat to match your pace, allowing you to have a steady tempo and cadence. I was using the Dynamic Workouts interval trainer and was feeling pretty good.

I did stop a few times because there were deer on the course. A lot of deer. I saw at least six close up, near the trail. So, of course, I had to take pictures:

And video:

Then, I had to take a picture of the friendly cat:

It’s what I do. I am a social, photograph-taking runner.

Then I finish the race and get my official time: 38:35.

My PR time (post-baby) is 38:06 from the Crystal City Twilighter back over the summer.

30 Seconds. 30 Seconds. That’s all I needed to beat my PR.

Oh well, next time, maybe! In the meantime, I will keep practicing with Weav Music to increase my speed!
