Turkey Tumble 10-Miler & 5k

The Bishop’s Events Turkey Tumble 10-miler & 5k was held on November 19, 2017 in Washington, D.C. This race was in partnership with the Organization for Autism Research.

Pre-Race

The race starts at the end of Water Street near the Potomac Boat Club. There is street parking available, and luckily I found a spot not too far from the start line. Packet pick-up was simple and quick, with no wait. The 10-miler starter slightly earlier than the 5k, so I had time to snap a few pictures before beginning.

The Course

The course for both the 10-miler and 5k was an out-and-back along the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path near Georgetown. Trees line the trail and a beautiful view of the Potomac River and the canal can be seen. It was very scenic and flat! There was a big deer walking in the canal, so of course I stopped to take a picture! The path is dirt and crushed gravel, which allows for a comfortable run. Watch out for some muddy puddles, though!

How did I do?

I ran the 5k for this race and did just ok. It was slightly chilly, but I was dressed better for this race than the Veteran’s Day 5k. My final time was 42:04. I was running out of steam at the end of the race.
