I just got back from a week long trip to Disney World, so I have a lot of new content for the Magical Mickey link-ups! For the first part of my trip, I was wandering around Disney alone because Nathan had class that he couldn’t miss, but I still wanted to vacation. I spent a lot of time hanging out with characters and taking tons of pictures! All of that makes me hungry, so I went to look for something to eat. And that brings me here:
Kona Cafe/Kona Island
It was almost 5 p.m. and I was hungry for dinner. There really is nothing that I can eat at Magic Kingdom, so I hopped over to the Polynesian Village Resort for dinner. I was hoping that I would be able to get a spot at Kona Cafe, since I was by myself, but they were not taking walk-ups. Luckily, if you could find a seat at Kona Island (the coffee bar right next to Kona Cafe), you could order off of the same menu. The seating is bar-style seating (so no tables), but that worked for me.
I picked a seat facing outside. I decided to have my dinner with a nice view. The chef came out to speak with me regarding my food allergies/preferences, and I decided to order a version of the Pan-asian Noodles. They had gluten-free soy sauce that they could use, and it sounded perfect. I considered also ordering a vegan Rainbow Roll, but thought that I would have too much food.
My dish came out and it looked pretty good, minus the mushrooms, onions, and peppers (which I promptly picked out). I guess I should have confirmed what the vegetables were. Oops. Oh well. Upon tasting the dish, I discovered that the dish was nothing special. Hmm.There was almost no flavor to this dish. I really wanted to like it, but it was so boring tasting!
The next time the waiter came around, I asked if he had any spicy sauce or Sriracha. Luckily he had some Thai Chili Sauce, which I promptly dumped all over my dish. Finally, some flavor! I think that the original peanut-sauce offered on this dish would bring some flavor, so if you don’t have an allergy you shouldn’t run into the tasteless problem (or just ask for some spiciness!)
Kona Cafe/Kona Island accepts Tables in Wonderland and the Disney Dining Plan, so I was able to get a discount. After dinner, I walked around the new lobby and loved this guy:

I have never eaten at this restaurant at Disney. I know I’ve been to this hotel and eaten at another one and it was amazing. I can’t wait to try this one.

Sorry about the “tasteless” experience at Kona Café… Those noodles sure look good though.

Sorry that your dish wasnt very good. I actually love Kona Cafe. I’m a fan of their sticky wings but also they’re breakfast. Can’t go wrong with the Tonga Toast.
