Coming up on October 5 is the Tower of Terror Race Weekend. I will be arriving in Orlando late Thursday for a quick trip to Disney World. Friday will be spent at packet pick-up and expo, as well as some time in the parks. Saturday morning is the Happy Trails 5k, which I will be running with Nathan and Madre. That evening I will be running the 10-miler with Marty and Heidi. After the all-night party at Hollywood Studios, I will be flying home early…

Wedrose Acres Hoof Haul

I signed up for this virtual race because it was inexpensive. BUT, it was a lot of fun. This race was actually a part of a real race on Wedrose Acres, which is an animal sanctuary in Illinois. After the 5k through the farm, they were having a vegan potluck, which is what I think would have been fun to attend. Maestro and I ran this 5k together. He was pretty tired at the end, but did a good job keeping up. He enjoyed sharing the…

Moose on the Loose 10-miler

While in New Hampshire I ran a 10-mile race. I was super excited to find this race in Nashua where we were staying for a wedding. I got up early and got to the starting point. The race was a trail run through Mine Falls Park. The course was 4 loops through the park. Towards the end of my first loop I tripped and fell. I ended up skinning my knees and hands pretty bad, but I knew I had to keep going. At the…

Let Freedom Run 5k

On the 4th of July I ran a race called “Let Freedom Run”. Of course I had to dress festively, so I sewed up a patriotic skirt and found a crown to wear. I was definitely the most patriotically dressed. It’s a holiday, and I don’t understand why people aren’t even wearing red, white, and blue. People are so boring sometimes! The race was pretty flat and fast, and my time was pretty good. I ran most of it, with some walking at the end.…

Expedition Everest Post Party!

After we finished our race and got our medals (and I took a trip to medical to get some ice!), we went back into Animal Kingdom for the After Party. It was about midnight! Animal Kingdom is so neat after dark! The Tree of Life is lit up, as well as Everest. Unfortunately, my phone camera does not do well in the dark. The lines were really short, so we rode Expedition Everest twice. It is such a better ride in the dark. You don’t see…

Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge

Heidi and I got to Animal Kingdom around 7:30 p.m. hoping to be able to exchange our race shirts for a smaller size, but we had no luck. No smaller sizes were available. We relaxed in the car for a while, put on our bibs, and then went to get some pictures taken. It was pretty crowded, but the energy level was high. There were two snow machines pumping out snow on everyone and the DJ was blasting music and talking to the crowd. The race officially…

My first 13.1 – His Half Marathon

On April 14, I ran my first half marathon. Well, I ran part of the race and walked/hobbled the rest.I had signed up for this race last year because it offered a free training program. It started in January and met every Saturday morning at Prince William Forrest Park. It was going great, and I was up to about 8 miles when my IT band started giving me issues and my knee started to hurt. I rested and stretched for about a month and then decided to…

St. Patty’s Day 8k

This is a recap of the St. Patty’s Day 8k in Washington, DC on March 10, 2013. Heidi flew up from Florida to do this race with me. We decided to go all out with our costumes because we knew there would be a costume contest. I made us both green skirts, and we had green wigs and rainbow tattoos, along with festive knee socks. It was fun driving up to DC in our costumes. A few people looked over while we were driving and…
