Vegan & Gluten-free at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Yak & Yeti

*This dining experience took place in July 2014* Our last day at Disney World included lunch at Yak & Yeti at Animal Kingdom. We haven’t eaten here since before we were vegan, so we were looking forward to our lunch.   The chef came out and talked to us and said that he could make us some pad thai using rice noodles. I had him add some pineapple to mine. This dish was good, but was lacking some depth of flavor. Nathan had gotten his…

Vegan & Gluten-free at Disney’s Animal Kingdom – Flame Tree Barbecue

*This dining experience took place in July 2014* There aren’t a lot of counter service dining options at Animal Kingdom for gluten-free vegans, but there is a good salad option at Flame Tree Barbecue. It is supposed to come with chicken and barbecue sauce, but I got it without. The chef supplied me with oil and vinegar and lots of spices with which to flavor my salad. It was full of vegetables and beans, so it was a refreshing and filling lunch. And a bonus were great…

The Gardens Allergy Kiosk at Disney’s Animal Kingdom

Located in Discovery Island in Disney’s Animal Kingdom is a new Allergy Kiosk. This is THE PLACE to go for allergen-friendly snacks and information on where to eat.   The kiosk carries BabyCakes doughnuts, mini-cupcakes, and cookies, as well as Tofutti and other snacks. They also have a pin-board! As it was early, we chose to get some doughnuts. They come individually packaged and you can choose chocolate or cinnamon & sugar. They were both delicious and I miss the BabyCakes store in Downtown Disney!     …

Expedition Everest Post Party!

After we finished our race and got our medals (and I took a trip to medical to get some ice!), we went back into Animal Kingdom for the After Party. It was about midnight! Animal Kingdom is so neat after dark! The Tree of Life is lit up, as well as Everest. Unfortunately, my phone camera does not do well in the dark. The lines were really short, so we rode Expedition Everest twice. It is such a better ride in the dark. You don’t see…

Disney’s Expedition Everest Challenge

Heidi and I got to Animal Kingdom around 7:30 p.m. hoping to be able to exchange our race shirts for a smaller size, but we had no luck. No smaller sizes were available. We relaxed in the car for a while, put on our bibs, and then went to get some pictures taken. It was pretty crowded, but the energy level was high. There were two snow machines pumping out snow on everyone and the DJ was blasting music and talking to the crowd. The race officially…

Tusker House at Animal Kingdom

*This dining experience took place in August 2012* We went for a character breakfast one morning at Animal Kingdom’s Tusker House. The chef walked me around the buffet and told me what was safe to eat. He also went back and made me a huge plate of Mickey Waffles because this was what I really wanted! I didn’t take a picture of the rest of my food but it included breakfast potatoes, fruit, and some other things that I don’t remember. Also, the jungle juice…
